Microsoft continues to integrate the generative AI technology that underpins ChatGPT throughout its portfolio of enterprise tools, this time announcing that it is bringing the “Copilot” tool in the company’s employee experience and engagement product Viva later this year.

Copilot in Microsoft Viva, the Redmond, Wash.-based IT giant says, takes advantage of next-generation AI to accelerate new employee performance metrics that equally value productivity and engagement. The tool combines large language models with an organization’s data in the Microsoft Graph and Viva apps to give leaders a new way to engage employees.

According to Microsoft, Copilot in Microsoft Viva Goals helps simplify goal setting by guiding leaders through the process of creating goals and simplifying goal management across the organization. The AI tool can suggest draft objective and key results (OKRs) based on existing Word documents such as business plans or product strategies.

Once created, Copilot summarizes the status of OKRs, identifies blockers and suggests nest steps, helping save employees time. Copilot can also consolidate existing data to generate more comprehensive check-ins so teams can leverage knowledge across different sources, Microsoft says.

Meanwhile, Copilot in Viva Engage is designed to help leaders better engage employees by generating compelling posts from simple prompts or trending workplace topics. Leaders can leverage Copilot for suggestions to personalize messages and adjust their tone and length.

Additionally, leaders can use Copilot to analyze engagement metrics, access sentiment, and suggest responses, according to a Microsoft blog post.

To educate and train employees, Microsoft offers Viva Learning Copilot, where a generative AI assistant recommends learning collections and knowledge summaries tailored to specific roles or development needs.

Microsoft Viva topics include CoPilot, where employees can learn more about related topics and view related topics and programs through a conversational interface. In the "Answers" section, CoPilot helps users ask questions with the right accuracy and completeness, and extracts relevant topics to categorize the question.

Microsoft also announced the addition of Viva Clint to the Viva Suite, which helps companies measure and improve employee engagement to drive business results. Copilot comes to Glint to summarize and analyze employee feedback, giving managers an easy way to discover feedback by asking in natural language.

Copilot comes to Microsoft Viva after the company announced the integration of OpenAI's large language models with Microsoft 365 productivity tools, Dynamics 365, security tools and more.
