YouTube reinstates Donald Trump's channel

The move follows similar decisions by Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, and Twitter, which owns Elon Musk.
The former US president was banned from posting videos on YouTube in January 2021 after YouTube said his channel violated its rules on incitement to violence.
But according to YouTube's press release, his account is now available again.
"Starting today, Donald J. Trump's channel is no longer blocked and can upload new content," Google's own YouTube wrote.
“We have carefully assessed the ongoing risk of real-life violence and have also considered the possibility that voters will be able to hear equally from key national candidates ahead of the election.
"This channel is subject to our policies, just like any other YouTube channel."
YouTube had previously banned Trump from posting videos on its platform days after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington, DC on Jan. 6, 2021.
Hundreds of mobs entered the complex as the United States Congress tried to confirm Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election.
Trump's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts were also suspended in the wake of the riots.
A few months later, he launched his own social media platform, Truth Social.
However, in 2022, Trump announced that he would run for the 2024 US presidential election, and his accounts on all of those platforms have since been restored.
He has over 2.6 million subscribers on YouTube, 87 million followers on Twitter, 34 million followers on Facebook and 23 million followers on Instagram.
But there's no guarantee Trump will repost the videos on YouTube, even if he follows them.
