Microsoft’s AI-Powered Bing Search Engine crosses 100 Million Daily Active Users

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's search for Google reached a new milestone this week when the company announced that its artificial intelligence-powered search engine Bing has surpassed 100 million daily active users.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's corporate vice president and chief consumer marketing officer, revealed the Bing statistics in a blog post on Wednesday. Notably, a third of active Bing Preview users said they were new to Bing, a limited early version of the upcoming search engine. He said the company sees this as "reinforcing" its view that finding, responding, chatting, and creating evidence of attraction and reinvention should all be in one place.

That doesn't mean Google can catch up with Microsoft with over 1 billion daily active users, but it's a good start.

"While this number is surprisingly significant, we recognize that we're still a small, single-digit player," Mehdi said in a blog post.

Microsoft executives declined to give specific numbers but said users are doing more searches on Bing.

Mehdi explained that two factors affect how Bing is tested and used. One is the Microsoft Edge browser, where the company is aggressively pushing users toward Windows updates and trying to prevent users from downloading Google Chrome, The Verge reports. According to Mehdi, Microsoft plans to continue using Edge to develop Bing in the future.

"We expect new features like Bing search and Edge sidebar integration to drive further growth," said a Microsoft executive.

Another factor driving growth is the updated ranking of the main Internet search engine Bing, which Mehdi says has become more relevant and high-quality thanks to the recent integration of the Prometheus OpenAI model. At a press conference last month, Microsoft said Prometheus was "more powerful than ChatGBT," the OpenAI chatbot that took the world by storm.

As expected, users are also flocking to Bing to chat with the infamous search engine. About a third of people use Bing Chat every day, with an average of three chat sessions per session. February. Bing recorded more than 45 million chats in the 7 days since the preview began.
