The OnePlus 11 gets reviewed by Nothing CEO Carl Pei
Carl Pei co-founded OnePlus, but has since moved to his own company called Nothing. Earlier, Carl delved into the world of smartphone reviews when he checked out the latest iPhone. Now he's back with a very interesting review of his old company's latest phone, the OnePlus 11. First, read our own OnePlus 11 review to find out what to expect from this phone.
In a 12-minute OnePlus 11 review video (which you can watch above), Carl shares his reaction to the phone's hardware and software. First of all, you have a lot of good things to say. He calls the device "beautiful" and talks about the design details that most consumers will see. These include tweaks to the camera module and the phone's bezels, which are narrower than the real thing.
At the same time, he also criticizes some apparent compromises. These include the way the camera module attaches to the phone's rails, but not quite, and some poorly placed buttons. Carl often returns to how impressed he is with the OnePlus 11's overall premium feel.
Carl is the most important software. This is your first experience with Oxygen OS since switching to the Color OS codebase. He says he doesn't understand why the company took what worked and experimented with the formula. It also points to several usability issues with the software, including problems opening the app drawer and blocks of text that appear to be designed with Chinese characters in mind.
In the end, Carl says the phone is better overall, but "lacks real identity." He physically lacked the brand integration he sought when it came to the business he supported. Also, despite the many useful features, the software is not as complicated as we would like.
While it's easy to find smartphone reviews anywhere on YouTube, it's not every day you see someone who played a key role in starting a business giving an unbiased review of their latest device. Be sure to check out our full OnePlus 11 review above!
